The Literary Brothel vs. The Poetry Brothel
You will never see me write these words again, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't read them and do exactly what they say: Check out this article from The Star:
Ode to a whore at a smart literary brothel
Don't worry, it's work safe.
Ah, it is actually a "Poetry Brothel" in New York City; only the title calls it a "literary brothel," so it looks like we won't have to issue our usual (as in, never issued) "Cease and Desist" order.
Yet the poorly written article unintentionally raises some interesting questions:
1. If the Poetry Brothel is a "smart" literary brothel, what is a "dumb" literary brothel?
2. How are these "students" recruited? At the end of a lecture does "The Professor" casually drop the line, "Oh yeah, and if you're a good looking girl and want to paid to read poetry while partially naked, see me after class. Free verse also allowed."
3. Who is this professor and are there similar professors on the West Coast?
4. Where is the conservative outrage? "College Kids Use Education To Work At Brothels." Oh the outrage, oh the disgrace. Oh yeah, it'll have to wait until after conservatives tire of patronizing the place.
5. Why have we not been invited to do an expose "The Literary Brothel ON a Literary Brothel?" We've got correspondents in New York. Hit us up, Zipper Room Poetry Brothel.
Seriously.

I very well might check that out, except that the Zipper Factory closed down unexpectedly about two weeks ago. Boo.
Oh no, we're too late!
This is what happens when you downsize. The error never would have happened in the pre-recession era Brothel, with current event editors aplenty.
It would have been sweet though, if you would have gone and we could have a report of The Poetry Brothel here on The Literary Brothel.
I know! Hipness in NY moves at the speed of light! You've got to catch it before it's gone!
The Poetry Brothel lives on ladies.
True. The Zipper Factory's Tavern, which played home to the poetry brothel for the last two events, has been closed. The Poetry Brothel has had however, a number of lovely establishments welcome its poets, patrons, and press.

As far as the dear "professor" is concerned she is a poet who is simply featured as one of the many lovely poet "whores." The recruitment occurs via the poetry brothel's founders, "The Madame" aka Stephanie Berger and "Tennessee Pink" aka Nicholas Adamski.
More event from The Poetry Brothel are on the horizon and just maybe a report from The Literary Brothel on The Poetry Brothel.
What the shnitzel?
Despite what Anonymous says, there are no reports from The Literary Brothel on the Poetry Brothel in the works.
Yes, we'll take pieces on the Poetry Brothel if anyone wishes to write them...but you'll be representing yourself, not this site, unless you have been identified as a Literary Brothel harlot. Those who have know who you are.
The Poetry Brothel is having another event!
Send out your people to Papa B's studios on May 1st for an event to remember: Dorianne Laux and Joseph Millar are our featured readers!
Check out the website for future event updates, and to get in touch about press info and things.
Thanks Ari. Good to know that when people are looking for the Poetry Brothel they can find it through us.
I guess.
